About The Society

The Society’s roots go back to the late 1920’s when a few enthusiastic artists met in the town to share their interest in art and to encourage others. Over the years the Society grew considerably – a local newspaper item in 1955 reported that an art exhibition had been held in the town by the Art Society almost continuously since it was formed in 1929. Today our exhibitions display over 180 items. Membership mainly consists of keen amateurs, but we also have some professionals as members.

Non-painters are welcome to join the Society as are those interested in ceramics and sculpting.

Our Annual General Meeting is held in September. Formal business is kept to a minimum and is usually followed by a demonstration or talk.
